Second District

Spanning the top of Indiana from the Michigan line to the banks of the Wabash River, the Second Congressional District is home to cities and towns such as South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Goshen, Warsaw, Plymouth, Logansport, and Peru. Our people are builders and makers, hardworking farmers, and small business owners with a strong faith and deep love of country that has shaped northern Indiana for generations.

The Second District is known for manufacturing. Elkhart County is the RV Capital of the World, producing more than 80 percent of all recreational vehicles built in the United States, along with much of the nation's pontoon fleet. Warsaw is the Orthopedic Capital of the World, home to roughly a third of global orthopedic manufacturing. Conn Selmer has built band instruments in Elkhart since 1875.

The local economy is also one of the most diverse in the Midwest. Agriculture and food production have a deep history across all eleven counties, where corn, soybeans, dairy, hogs, and poultry anchor rural communities. Indiana leads the nation in duck production, and both of the country's largest producers are located here.

The Second District offers some of the best outdoor recreation in the Midwest. The three largest natural lakes in Indiana are found here, and Kosciusko County alone holds more than 100. Families fish, boat, and camp at Potato Creek and Tippecanoe River State Parks and across thousands of acres of state fish and wildlife areas.

Grissom Air Reserve Base has a tremendous impact in north-central Indiana. Named for Hoosier astronaut Lt. Col. Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, it is home to the 434th Air Refueling Wing and the largest employer in Miami County. In St. Joseph County, AM General builds the HUMVEE and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.

Education has deep roots in the Second District. The University of Notre Dame has sat north of South Bend since 1842, joined by Saint Mary's, Holy Cross, Bethel, Grace, and Manchester. Culver Academies has trained young leaders on Lake Maxinkuckee since 1894.

Hoosiers in the Second District are known for grit, hard work, and brilliance. From the factory floor to the family farm to the world-class classroom, this is a place that has always made its own way. That's the Second District, and there's no place better to live, work, and raise a family.
