Congressman Yakym Votes for Border Security
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act:
“President Biden’s and Secretary Mayorkas’ failed open-borders agenda has unleashed a massive wave of chaos, lawlessness, and human suffering. In fact just this week, Customs and Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 10,000 illegal immigrants for three consecutive days, the highest single-day totals ever recorded.
“No one is well served by this president’s immigration policies: not Americans living along the southern border, not citizens across the country being poisoned by fentanyl, and certainly not migrants who are often victims of human traffickers and the cartels.
“While the Biden Administration continues to falsely insist their failed and inhumane immigration “plan” is working, House Republicans are fighting for border security. The strong border security package we passed out of the House today is full of commonsense solutions, including resuming construction of the border wall, increasing the number of Border Patrol agents, streamlining the asylum process, and strengthening protections for unaccompanied children.
“President Biden and Senate Democrats can’t pretend we don’t have a border crisis any longer. They need to support the ‘Secure the Border Act’ so we can end this security and humanitarian disaster, defend our nation’s sovereignty, and keep Americans safe.”
