Yakym Votes to Back Law Enforcement During National Police Week
WASHINGTON, D.C. – During National Police Week, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) voted in favor of H. Con. Res. 96, a resolution expressing support for law enforcement officers across the country. The week is set aside each year to honor officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and thank those who continue to serve.
“You cannot have freedom without safety, and you cannot have safety without the men and women willing to defend it,” Rep. Yakym said. “This week, we honor the fallen and thank every officer who puts their life on the line to keep our communities safe. House Republicans stood with law enforcement today because safe communities start with backing the people who protect them.”
Background:
H. Con. Res. 96 affirms congressional support for law enforcement officers, recognizes the dangers they face, and rejects the anti-police rhetoric and soft-on-crime policies that have driven crime up in cities across the country.
Democrats spent years cutting police budgets, attacking officers, and excusing violent criminals. Families in communities across America paid the price. Since President Trump took office, Republican leadership has taken a different approach. Violent crime has fallen to a 125-year low nationally. In Democrat-run California over the same period, violent crime rose 15 percent.
Indiana’s Second District is home to thousands of law enforcement officers and first responders who show up every day to protect their neighbors and Rep. Yakym is proud to stand with them.
