Washington, D.C. –  Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) issued the following statement after voting for H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. H.R. 1 is House Republicans’ signature legislation for the 118th Congress, and it passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote earlier today: 

“American energy independence is a matter of national security and economic security. Unfortunately, since day one President Biden has gone to war on American energy, putting the left’s radical climate agenda above commonsense. His backwards policies have made us more reliant on hostile nations and some of the worst polluters in the world for our energy needs while driving up costs for working families. 

“That’s why H.R. 1 is so important. From streamlining the permitting process for infrastructure projects to increasing domestic production to ensuring we can mine and produce the critical minerals we need here at home – and not have to rely on Communist China – H.R. 1 is a big step towards restoring American leadership and getting our country back on a path to energy dominance. 

“I’m proud to support this critical legislation that will lower costs, strengthen our national security, and help us reclaim control of our own destiny.”
