Congressman Yakym Votes to Defend Innocent Life

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) released the following statement after voting for the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” legislation that would ensure that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection of law and degree of care as any other newborn baby:

“No constitutional right is more fundamental than the right to life – and that right should extend to babies who survive an attempted abortion.

“One of the hallmarks of a healthy society is that the strong look out for the weak. Innocent life is precious and sacred, and this new Republican majority is going to be a voice for those who can’t speak up for themselves.

“I urge my Democrat colleagues in the Senate to put partisanship and abortion extremism aside, and to pass this commonsense legislation to ensure children who survive abortion are protected under our laws.”
