Congressman Rudy Yakym Outlines Defense Priorities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) released the following statement after addressing the Committee on Appropriations, Defense Subcommittee regarding his defense priorities for Fiscal Year 2026.
“Indiana’s Second District is the manufacturing capital of the country, including home to AM General, a premier producer of Humvees and JLTVs,” Congressman Yakym said. “Humvees play a vital role for our constituents, warfighters, and national security. AM General employs hundreds of hardworking Hoosiers, and additional funding will only grow that number while modernizing our fleet and enhancing our military readiness for years to come.”
“We appreciate Congressman Yakym’s strong support for our mission to produce state-of-the-art Humvees and JLTVs that have served countless missions at home and abroad,” John Chadbourne, AM General Executive Vice President, said. “His commitment to securing this critical funding will immediately enhance our light tactical vehicle fleet, boosting military readiness, strengthening national security, and creating more good-paying jobs across Indiana and the Midwest.”
Background:
The Army plans to keep over 49,000 JLTVs and 55,000 Humvees in service until 2050. By 2030, the average Humvee will be 20 years old, highlighting the urgent need for modernization investments. Investment in modernization would strengthen national defense, employ even more hardworking Hoosiers and Americans, and ensure the Army and Marine Corps have the modern, reliable vehicles needed to address both domestic and global threats.
AM General has been a leader in manufacturing Humvees in Mishawaka, Indiana, for over 40 years. As the new producer of the JLTV A2, they are enhancing mobility, protection, and technology for future military operations. AM General employs over 1,100 Americans, and the broader LTV supply chain spans 43 states and 1,100 suppliers.
